The most asked:
What is a TENS device?
A TENS device (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is a small, portable device that delivers gentle electrical pulses through the skin using adhesive electrode pads.
These pulses interact with nerves involved in pain signalling and can help reduce the perception of pain. TENS is widely used in clinical and at-home settings as a non-invasive, drug-free pain management tool.
TENS does not treat the underlying cause of pain, but it may help manage symptoms for many people.
Does TENS help pelvic pain?
TENS is commonly used to help manage different types of pelvic pain, including period pain, chronic pelvic pain, and pelvic muscle tension.
In pelvic health practice, TENS is often used as part of a broader pain management approach. Some people find it helps reduce pain intensity, improve comfort, or make flare-ups more manageable.
Results vary from person to person, and TENS is not a cure for pelvic pain conditions — but it can be a helpful supportive tool for symptom relief.
Is TENS safe to use regularly?
For most people, TENS is considered safe when used according to instructions and can be used throughout the day, for days on end.
It is non-invasive, does not involve medication, and can be used regularly as part of a pain management routine. As with any device, it’s important to follow the instructions for use and avoid placing electrodes on broken skin or areas where use is not recommended.
TENS may not be suitable for everyone (for example, people with certain implanted medical devices), so it’s always a good idea to check with a healthcare professional if you’re unsure.
Can TENS help with endometriosis pain?
Many people with endometriosis use TENS to help manage pain associated with periods, pelvic discomfort, and flare-ups.
While TENS does not treat endometriosis itself, it may help reduce pain signals and improve comfort for some individuals. For this reason, it is sometimes used alongside other medical and supportive treatments as part of a personalised pain management plan.
Experiences vary, and what works for one person may not work for another.
How is Tap different from other TENS devices?
Not all TENS devices are designed for the same purpose.
Tap. Health was created specifically with pelvic pain in mind. Unlike many generic TENS devices designed for general muscle pain, Tap focuses on:
-Design intent: created specifically for pelvic pain use
-Evidence-informed preset modes: reflecting how TENS is commonly used in pelvic health practice
-Ease of use: simple, wearable, and discreet
-Clinician trust: used and recommended by pelvic health clinicians across Australia and New Zealand
Tap is designed to remove guesswork and make TENS more accessible for people managing pelvic pain — without making claims to treat or cure underlying conditions.
